Historic record year for Örebro Airport
— freight operations up 20 %
The success continues for Örebro Airport. 2008 was the third year in a row the airport´s freight
operation set new records. Freight volume increased by 20% on the 2007 record high and passed
the dream mark of 30,000 tonnes for the first time. This while the industry as a whole felt the effects of a sharp decline.
“Reaching over 30,000 tonnes is a milestone in Örebro Airport´s history. This is an exceptional feat bearing in mind the large fall in volume of between 20 and 50% that affected other players in the industry during the late summer and autumn of 2008," says Kjell-Åke Westin, Managing Director of Örebro Airport.
83 tonnes a day
The total figure for 2008 was 30,392 tonnes, an increase of 20% on the 2007 record of 25,411 tonnes. This means that some 83 tonnes a day — seven days a week — were transported from Örebro Airport last year, including both air cargo and truck freight from Örebro. Örebro Airport is going against the stream by offering something no one else does. This includes heavy special freight and ad hoc cargo flights. The latter entails a solution that goes beyond planned scheduled flights, whereby Örebro Airport tailors the entire cargo service. A challenge that places tough demands on speed, quality and dedicated staff. “The basic attitude is that nothing´s impossible and we never say no. With an ad hoc assignment the client is often already under pressure, so it´s important that we deliver on time. We have achieved this, which is why customers come back again," says Kjell-Åke Westin.Great national importance
According to its Managing Director, Örebro Airport plays an important role in the region´s development. It is also pleasing that the airport is now firmly established on Sweden´s national map. The Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Rescue Services Agency are major customers, and the importance of Örebro Airport at a national level will increase in the future. “Our owners´ shrewd investment in a long, wide runway gives us an edge over the competition, especially as times become tougher," says Kjell-Åke Westin. For further information, please contact:
